This place is everything you think of when you think of Vermont–and more. Ready to learn why Stowe, Vermont should be on your travel radar?
Whether you think of Vermont as one of the states where our country’s history began or you view it as a region full of mystery, one thing is for certain – other states simply can’t claim the mystique that Vermont offers. Just mention the state, and immediately you mind conjures images of mountains and meadows, Jersey cows, covered bridges, sublime skiing, and – of course – maple syrup.
While some of these are history’s images, little has changed since Vermont’s early days, except for the metal and tin buckets collecting sap at the base of the maples have been replaced by more sophisticated equipment. Some of the old, red barns that once were family farms have been converted to chic B&Bs.
The covered bridge, white, spire-topped church, old, red barns, and fun ski trails make Stowe the epitome of the state. The town is located at Mount Mansfield’s base right in the track of the snow belt region. Stowe perfectly personifies Vermont’s early glory days in the ski industry – something you can learn more about at Vermont’s Ski Museum in the heart of Stowe.
Although skiers were climbing Mount Mansfield long before the industry really took off, the townsfolk installed a rope lift in 1937. Three years later, the first chairlift was unveiled, and the rest is history.
But if you’re not an avid skier – no worries! There’s more to Stowe than just the slopes. You can stroll through numerous chic shops, boutiques, galleries, dining establishments, and more. At Helen Day’s Art Center, you can check out works by local and regional artists.
If you’d rather be a bit more active, consider renting a bicycle and trek the Stowe Recreation Path, a nearly 5.5-mile trail through those picturesque meadows and forests we mentioned above with a backdrop of Mount Mansfield.
For lodging (and skiing!) consider Stowe Mountain Resort, where you can ski in the winter and ride the gondola up to the top of Mount Mansfield during the warmer months.
These reason are why Stowe, Vermont should be on your travel radar. Ready to see what Stowe, Vermont has in store for you?
