Montana is one of those states that is a whole country by itself. It can be enjoyed at any time of year, but there is something spectacular about visiting Montana in the winter – whether it’s for the holiday season, a mid-winter ski getaway, or just enjoying the ambiance of this state when it’s donned in white.
Crowds and Montana are not two words that go together – but in the winter, these lands are even less crowded. So, imagine the slopes of Colorado or Utah, but nearly all to yourself. And with world-class accommodations to boot! And while the skiing and snowboarding are pretty epic in their own right, winter is the chance to check out the state’s coolest towns as their all bundled up for winter.
If you’re considering a national parks vacation, the ones in Montana are some of the most famous in the nation – one of them even has a hit television show named after it currently. Glacier National Park and Yellowstone National Park are beautiful any time of year, but in the wintertime they’re especially gorgeous. There are spots in the park you can’t go to in winter for safety reasons, but it’s still a must to check out the views of these remote destinations all decked in white with barely anyone else around.
For accommodations, a family favorite is Red Lodge. Its gracious abode is welcoming and the perfect place to start a family tradition. The lodge isn’t far from Billings and is a local favorite destination, too. The chalet always has hot coffee, cocoa, or beer on tap.
You’ll find fine dining and family options on Broadway Avenue, the main thoroughfare of Red Lodge. Wild Table offers incredible breakfasts, too. Other accommodation choices along Broadway include the Yodeler Motel and enjoy a slice of history at the Pollard Hotel.
Visiting Montana in Winter will not disappoint; but no matter when you visit, Montana will always feel like home – only better.
