Plan A Visit to Denali National Park Alaska
Alaska. What Movies and television shows depict what life is like in this northernmost state – remember Northern Exposure? Rob Morrow, John Corbett, and Janine Turner headed up this series about a small-town doctor offering his community service. The Al Pacino flick Insomnia was also filmed in Alaska. While the big screen may have brought Alaska into your living room, this is a state of iconic natural beauty that simply must be seen in person. We highly recommend planning a visit to Denali National Park Alaska.
Traveling through North America’s many state parks and other attractions wouldn’t be complete without ticking of Denali National Park in the mountainous lands of Alaska. The tallest peak on the North American continent, Mount McKinley, is here in the interior of this northernmost American state, tucked into the Alaska Range mountains.
In an Alaskan native tongue, Denali is the name given to Mt. McKinley, meaning “the high one”. Denali National Park is one of the most popular national parks in the nation for spotting wildlife, engaging in outdoor activities, and fawning over breathtaking myriad landscapes – mountains and glaciers, rivers and lakes, and wide-open tundra.
While Denali National Park is massive, enormous portions are accessible only on foot or by dog sled. There’s one solitary road winding through the park’s core, which connects visitors to various trails, look-out points, and multiple visitor centers. Only the first few miles or so can be driven by private vehicles. If you want to see the park’s interior, you must arrange a park shuttle or be part of a pre-arranged bus tour.
Aside from Mount McKinley, there are some pretty incredibly photographic bodies of water, such as Savage River or Wonder Lake. Keep your camera at the ready, because you never know when you might get to capture a grizzly, caribou, or wolf. And after your sightseeing, take part in some fun outdoor activities unlike anything you’ll find elsewhere. Whitewater rafting, dogsledding, and epic fishing awaits.
Worry not about accommodations, as there are several hotels just outside Denali National Park, as well as various diners, cafés, and shops.
