Saratoga, Wyoming — the name alone conjures images of the old West. Saratoga is a natural wonder located in Wyoming’s idyllic North Platte River Valley. The rural town was established in the 1800s and is an ideal destination for adventurers seeking to learn more about Western culture while tucked away in a natural paradise. Saratoga presents an abundance of wildlife amidst pristine mountains and lakes, with various relaxing outdoor activities for your next memorable and restful retreat.

Unwind at the Hot Springs

Saratoga has been prized throughout American history for its therapeutic hot springs and thermal waters. In fact, former Wyoming governor, Fenimore C. Chatterton, named the town after the Iroquois Indian word “Sarachtoue”, which roughly translates to “place of miraculous water in the rock.”

The natural hot spring attractions are widely popular, especially in the chilly months when temperatures fall into the negatives. The Saratoga Hot Pool, located at Walnut Street, is open to the public 24/7 so you can enjoy a dip anytime, just like the earliest settlers of the scenic North Platte Valley.

If you’re seeking the hottest springs nature allows, there’s even a spring called the Lobster Pot, which stays a toasty 120 degrees F.

Fish and Float

The majestic Platte River winds through Saratoga and is the only floatable natural waterway in Wyoming. It’s a great fishing spot as a class 1 fishery with an estimated 3,200 fish per square mile (rainbow and cutthroat trout are top catches), and offers diverse recreational activities amidst a calming environment.

If you prefer keeping your itinerary activities on land, there are many suitable picnicking and camping areas that offer a phenomenal sight of the river’s crystal-clear waters.

Visit the Saratoga Museum

You’ll find the quaint Saratoga Museum across the Shively Field airstrip. The Saratoga Museum offers over 10,000 well-preserved artifacts, with a geological collection highlighting the region’s natural wonders including priceless gems and fossils.

For a taste of life on the prairie , visit Saratoga, Wyoming — the name alone conjures images of the old West.
